This is a sanctified shrine on the bank of river Yamuna, a site chosen by Kalgi Dhar Patshah Sahib, Sri Guru Gobind Singh for inhabiting a new town, after visiting the entire area of Nahan state during his short stay at Nahan. Guru Sahib held his first camp here for his stay. Subsequently, Guru Sahib got constructed a fort like strong building amidst this naturally beautiful and captivating site. It was here that Dasham Patshah laid the foundation of Paonta Sahib and named as such. Guru Sahib got constructed a building, Dewan Asthan in front of his residence, where Asa-Divar was daily recited, katha and kirtan held. ‘The tenets of the gurus’ were mused. Guru Sahib imparted spiritual knowledge to Sangat for a period of about four and a half years over here. The place became renowned as Gurudwara Harimandir Sahib.
The personal arms of Guru Sahib and many other articles were preserved when the Gurudwara Sahib was being managed by Mahants , many of these precious articles somehow disappeared. But some of the articles are still preserved in the Gurudwara Sahib.
